There are several interior design schools in New York.  Before you apply, take a look at the school’s curriculum.  Schools and universities have their own specialties and focus.  Some specialize in residential and contract design while others focus on commercial space design.

Also take into consideration where you are planning to work.  The curriculum you are studying may not be applicable to the place that you are going to work in.  Studying at New York School of Interior Design will give you the skills you need, but such skills may not be particular to the state where you are planning to open your own firm.

Take a look at the school’s courses and see if it suits your needs.  It will offer subjects to teach you the basics, of course, but it will also train you in the latest computer-aided design technology.

Check out too if the graduates of the school in which you're planning to enroll have become successful.  Take a look at the designs of the recent graduates to see the results of their training.  Based on the graduates' work, you will find out if the training provided by the school is up to date.

A couple of the more popular schools in New York are The Art Institute of New York City and the New York School of Interior Design.  Top-ranked schools, on the other hand, are The Pratt Institute and Cornell University.  The New York School of Interior Design, on the other hand, is a private, non-profit school dedicated to interior design training.  They also offer financial aid for students.  Pratt and Cornell are difficult to get into and are highly selective of their students.  Aspiring students, for instance, will need a 3.0 GPA to be considered.
